Jumeirah Vittaveli is a little slice of heaven. Heaven for me, being a pristine island, set amongst the most stunning crystal clear, blue ocean, with all the luxuries I could possibly hope for. But this can be said for almost every island resort in the Maldives, so what makes Jumeirah Vittaveli stand out?
Our recent experience at Jumeirah Vittaveli was undeniably superb. It’s the standard of service and level of ultimate hospitality that set resorts like Jumeirah Vittaveli apart from the rest. From the welcome at Male Airport, which consisted of being personally greeted by a guest services agent, a short wait in the air-conditioned airport lounge with coffee, tea and wifi, all the way until departure, where a staff member escorted us from our boat to check-in. The whole process felt seem-less and hassle-free.
And speaking of the boat, the very luxurious and comfortable boat, I thoroughly enjoyed landing into Male, and needing not catch a sea plane to get to Jumeirah Vittaveli, but simply a 20 minute boat ride. From Dubai, that meant that we were more or less stepping foot onto the resort approximately 5 and a half hours after the plane took off! With a 2-year old in tow, this is exactly my idea of a great start to a holiday.
On this occasion, as Little Poppy P is extremely mobile, we opted to stay in a beach villa, as opposed to an ocean villa. Generally speaking the Maldives is known for stunning ocean villas, with individual access to the stunning, blue lagoons of the Indian Ocean. And Jumeirah Vittaveli has plenty of these! With 46 ocean villas and suites, Jumeirah Vittaveli even has a few that are accessible only by boat. Yep, that’s right. No bridge, no sand bank, just water and very impressive. On this adventure, however, our little family needed something a little more land based. But its not as though the beach villas are any less impressive. Thanks to every villa at Jumeirah Vittaveli having it’s own private pool, outdoor shower and bathtub, every villa feels as luxurious as the next. And I would know, as I luckily got a little tour of each of the different types of accommodation options while there.
While the vastness of the stunning islands in the Maldives is part of its allure, walking from end to end when you’d like to get around the island, not so much. There are, of course, buggies scooting around the island at your service, however I personally took a big liking to Jumeirah Vittaveli’s bicycles. Each guest is provided with a bicycle upon check-in and with bicycle parking all over the island, it was without a doubt my preferred mode of transport. Aside from being a great way to keep a little bit active during our holiday, I adore that even children are catered to with regards to bicycles. The little ones that are confident on their own are provided with their own bikes and the littler ones, baby seats on the back of their parent’s bikes. Little Poppy, being experienced as a passenger on the back of my Linus Dutchie in Dubai, felt right at home getting around Jumeirah Vittaveli.
In fact, it’s safe to say that Poppy felt right at home at Jumeirah Vittaveli in general. The resort is very well equipped for children, offering all the bells and whistles, the little people in our lives love. The Kuda Koli Kids Club and Treasure Hunt, an extensive kids menu, facilities for little people at every turn and let’s not forget the yellow submarine. The resort hosts a brilliant yellow submarine that gives its occupants a magnificent view of the nearby reef. On our visit, we were fortunate enough to see a sea turtle and several sting ray, amongst other colorful and lively fish. Needless to say, Poppy was beside herself with excitement. Keeping the little kids happy and occupied, obviously keeps us “big kids” even happier.
But its not just the fact that Poppy is unequivocally happy that has us smiling from ear to ear. There are ample activities to keep anyone occupied on the island, if relaxing on a pristine beach, overlooking the clearest ocean of your life isn’t your thing. NB; it IS my thing, but nevertheless, I couldn’t help but get involved in the rest of the resort’s offerings. From cooking classes, excursions, 24 hour over water gym, spa treatments and diving and water sports among other things. Not to mention, Jumeirah Vittaveli makes its own coconut oil on the island and also offers a class in that. If you’re looking for a fantastic family holiday, I’m not sure it comes easier than this. Moreover, Jumeirah Vittaveli actually offer excellent Family packages that cater to just about all the needs you could possibly think of as parents. Check out their offers HERE.
If you went to the Maldives and didn’t capture at least one of these magical sunsets, did it really even happen? There truly is nothing like watching the sunset, sipping a cocktail, with the 2 most important people in your life, completely care-free, with an unobstructed view of where the sky meets the ocean. It’s simply magical. We experienced our favorite sunset during our stay from Bar-ee Bar. One of the 4 restaurants and bars currently operating at Jumeirah Vittaveli, it was the perfect spot to sit and enjoy live music for sunset cocktails. Truthfully though, all the restaurants had their strengths, Fenesse giving an island culinary experience quite a bit of, well finesse, Mu offering a slightly more casual, and yet exquisitely set beach-side dining option and Samsara catering to practically every taste. And although, we adored jumping on our bicycles and heading over to each of the restaurants, we certainly didn’t mind a little bit of private, quiet time at the villa in the way of an in-villa breakfast. Set and served by our private pool, it is a first rate way to start the day.
There’s clearly very little else for me to say about Jumeirah Vittaveli, other than you obviously need to go and see for yourself. It’s little wonder that Jumeirah Vittaveli has won so many awards. Treat yourself to a vacation, where everything is seem-less and uncomplicated. Where all that’s left to feel is absolute relaxation and satisfaction.
